Perphaps a creature will be stirring

Gift ideas from the tropics

‘Twas the holiday season, when all check their gift lists,

Clueless about what to give some, and they can’t be missed.

The giftwrap’s ready for tape and the ribbon fit to be tied,

“But they’re hard to buy for!” has become your season’s cry.

You want to be all snug, finished with your holiday to-dos.

But your visions of sugarplums have been coming into view

Giving food baskets filled with unheard-of cheeses and red meat

Or searching ’til exhausted to give something discarded in a beat.

Now papayas, now starfruit, now SlimCados and limes.

On giving a jam or giving a relish; it won’t take much time.

Let your guests guess the fruits as the cake gets devoured,

But put aside at least one cookie for the red-suited sleigh driver.

Before you don a smart kerchief and your spouse a warm cap,

It won’t take long before you can settle in for a long winter’s nap.

Dash away, dash away to your grocer’s produce aisles.

Tropicals can give family and friends their seasonal smiles.

To all us creatures who find ourselves stirring,

Happier holidays that are far less unnerving,

Happy holidays to all

from all of us at Brooks.
