Starry Salad

The warm fruit slightly wilts the lettuce, while the crunch of the nuts lends some nice texture contrast. Pick your favorite salad ingredients as a base and top with broiled starfruit or try the simple recipe below. You can prepare individual plates or toss everything except the starfruit in a large bowl. Once broiled, the starfruit slices grace the top.

Ingredients (per serving)

Starfruit
1/2 Florida starfruit
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbs olive oil

Salad base
2 cups of lettuce (butterhead or mesclun works well)
1/2 tsp fresh basil
1/2 tsp tarragon
1 tbs vinaigrette dressing
1 tsp sliced almonds

Directions:

Coat starfruit slices with olive oil and lightly salt and pepper. Broil for 5-7 minutes until browned on the edges.
Toss the salad base ingredients together. Serve on individual plates or in a large bowl.
Lay broiled starfruit over the salad and serve.

Serves 1.
