Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
12 peppercorns
1 package kumquats, sliced (about 25 kumquats)
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan, make a peppery simple syrup by boiling sugar, water and peppercorns just until sugar is dissolved. Add the kumquats, bring to a boil, and simmer for about 10 minutes until syrup starts to reduce and thicken.
2. Using a fork, transfer kumquats to small dish (or to a clean jar if storing or giving as a gift). Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Prep time: 30 minutes
