Guava Crumble

Guava makes a superb filling for almost any baked good. This is a simple crumble recipe that highlights Thai guava's tart taste.


2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups oats
1 stick butter, softened
3 Thai guavas

Yield: 9 servings
Prep time: 20 minutes plus 20 to 30 minutes of baking

How to cut a guava


1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Spray an 8"x8" baking dish with cooking spray.
3. In a large bowl, combine the first five ingredients.
4. Add oats. Add softened butter with a pastry blender.
5. Press 1/2 of the flour mixture into the bottom of the baking dish.
6. Optional - remove the skins of the guava.
7. Cut the guavas in half. Scoop out the seed centers and discard if you desire.*
8. Cut the guavas into quarters. Put in a food processor or blender. Pulse until a smooth but grainy texture is obtained.
9. Spread the Thai guava mixture on top of the flour base in the baking dish.
10. Spread the remaining flour mixture on top.
11. Bake 20 to 30 minutes. Cool before slicing.
