Produce Business - August 2005 - John Rusnak - Highlights from the article Farmers in South Miami-Dade are opening their mailboxes this week with a certain measure of fear -- and, for some, a dose of anger.
"These days it’s about building a quality produce department," says Mary Ostlund Director of Marketing for Brooks Tropicals, Inc. in Homestead FL. “Caribbean Red papayas, avocados, SlimCados, Starfruit, Uniq Fruit, and other tropical fruits and vegetables enhance the produce section and make it more exciting for customers to shop."
Ostlund adds, "cross-merchandising specialty items is the key to greater sales. Placing the specialties near items they work well with gives the consumers a sense of security. If they know what items work well with the specialties, they are more likely to purchase them."
