Green papaya is
papaya that is unripe and will never ripen. This fruit is also known as a cooking papaya. That's a bit of a misnomer since the green papaya's most popular use is as a raw ingredient in green papaya salad. This Asian dish is popular in both Thailand where the salad is called som tam and Vietnam where the dish is called goi du du.

Finding Green papaya may require shopping at an Asian food market or a grocery store that carries Brooks Tropicals' Green papaya. Just make sure the fruit is green papaya and not fruit that will ripen, such as Caribbean Red papaya.
