Good to know enzyme

With a dietary enzyme call papain, papayas are called the dieter’s delight

Being a nutritional powerhouse, this fruit’s vitamins and minerals alone should get you eating papayas. But papayas also have a dietary enzyme called papain which helps you digest food. In Latin American countries this fruit is nicknamed “dieters’ delight”.

Papain is a proteolytic enzyme found in papaya and also extracted from the leaf of the papaya plant. Proteolytic enzymes help break amino acids down into smaller strings of protein that are easier to digest. This is why papain is a popular ingredient in meat tenderizer.

Proteolytic enzymes have also been shown to help reduce inflammation as well as or better than some anti-inflammatory drugs.
