A Culture of Food Safety
Achieving food safety is an in-depth process that starts at planting. This integrated process governs everything we do in managing our fields, along with the harvesting, packing, and warehousing of our produce.
Food safety continues with Brooks Tropicals' cold-chain distribution to grocery stores and wholesalers, ensuring that our Caribbean Red® papayas, SlimCado® avocados, Florida starfruit, Uniq Fruit®, and other tropical fruits and vegetables are constantly kept at optimal humidity levels and temperatures.
Food safety is the responsibility of every Brooks Tropicals employee. We are trained to anticipate and control any potential product hazard. Each employee serves as an inspector when working with the tropical fruits and vegetables destined for your family's table.
Brooks Tropicals grows 75% of what we sell. For the 25% we don't grow, we work closely with our growers to ensure that they follow and adhere to our food safety standards as set forth in our guidelines for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Food safety is an integral part of Brooks Tropicals' entire operation; we have incorporated food safety as a part of our culture.
Focus on Caribbean Red Papayas
Brooks Tropicals grows, harvests, packs, and imports Caribbean Red® papayas. Our papayas are grown in the Central American country of Belize. The Caribbean Red papaya label is not placed on fruit grown or packed by any other source.
Food Safety Audits
Our packing and distribution facilities in Belize and in Florida have continually achieved exceptional scores on food safety audits conducted by Primus Labs, an independent third-party auditor. These audits are done on a regular basis and are an important part of Brooks Tropicals' food safety program.
Comprehensive food safety programs have also been implemented in our growing and harvesting operations. Our fields and harvesting crews received high scores on third-party audits.
Focus on SlimCado Avocados
All SlimCado avocados are grown in Southern Florida, just south of Miami in an area called the Redlands.
Most of the SlimCado avocados we sell are grown by Brooks Tropicals. But we also manage other avocado groves and pack avocados for other growers.
Food Safety Audits
Our packing and distribution facilities in Florida have continually achieved exceptional scores on food safety audits conducted by Primus Labs. These audits are done on a regular basis.
Comprehensive food safety programs have also been implemented in our growing and harvesting operations. We'll be undergoing third-party audits in these areas soon. We are working with our independent growers to achieve the same objectives with their fields.
