Brooks Tropicals upgrades facilities
Homestead, Fla.-based Brooks Tropicals is updating its tropical packing facilities in order to more efficiently handle the growing variety of local tropicals they offer.
The updates are in response to growing demand for tropical produce items, said Peter Leifermann, director of sales.
Additionally, Brooks grows and packs carambola, or star fruit, for Texas and California markets under compliance agreements with the respective state departments of agriculture. Facility improvements will enable Brooks to continue to efficiently offer fruit to those states that is not irradiated or cold-treated, Leifermann said. “We’re enhancing our tropical packing line to meet the demand and to more efficiently meet protocols set across the country,” he said.
