HOMESTEAD, FL – Brooks Tropicals is now offering dragon fruit in collaboration with local South Florida growers.
The tropical staple is especially popular with Asian and Latino customers and the health-conscious, and boasts a taste reminiscent of a cross between a kiwi and a pear. With bright red skin with leathery, greenish-yellow shoots, dragon fruit stands out in the produce section
A peel of about 1/8” thick means this item is almost all fruit. The gel-like flesh is rich in protein, iron, fiber, and antioxidants.
Brooks expects to have excellent supplies through December. Dragon fruit come in four sizes: small, medium, large and jumbo, with case count varying between 15 and 40. The fruit is not ethylene-sensitive and offers great shelf life often between 10 and 14 days.
