Thanksgiving ranks among America’s top 13 holidays for avocado sales.
In addition to the Hass variety, greenskin avocados, a favorite of customers iwth Caribbean heritage, are grown in South Florida and imported from the Dominican Republic from June to February by Brooks Tropicals in Homestead FL.
“Last year was a light year for greenskin avocados, but we expect volumes to be up 20% this year and sizing for fall fruit trending toward, 18, 20 and 24 counts” says Peter Leifermann, sales director for Brooks Tropicals.
“Greenskin avocados are almost always larger and less expensive per pound,” says Mary Ostlund, marketing director for Brooks Tropicals. “This is part of their appeal.”
