Chopping a Solo papaya

The Solo makes a perfect dish and can also make a dish perfect. For chopping a Solo, you can always cut in half lengthwise, discard the seeds then scoop out the yummy interior to chop for a salad, entree or dessert.

This is faster, once you get the hang of it. This method can be used for both Solo papayas and our Caribbean Red papayas.

Sorry kids, adults only.

Slice off bottom

Place the Solo on its side on a cutting board and slice off its end, cutting off about 1/2 inch.

Cut off the skin

Stand the solo on its end and slice the peel off using downward strokes.

Trim any peel left

Place the Solo on its side. Trim any peel left.

Slice top off

Slice off the top of the Solo papaya

Slice in half

Slice down the middle, opening up the 2 halves of the papaya.

Discard the seeds*

Use a big spoon and scoop out and discard the seeds.

*Or dry the seeds for a tasty pepper.

Flip it!

Use the blade of the knife to flip the Solo half over.

Slice or chop

Slice and chop as desired.

Ready, set, enjoy

Chop it up, as you like for that salad, dessert, breakfast or snack.

Refrigerate overnight and you’ll get a lovely glaze over your papaya. Perfect touch for the morning’s yogurt or evening’s ice cream that’ll be topped with Solo papaya chunks.
